Der wunderschön gezeichnete Chitinpanzer diesen großen Bockkäfers diente den Mayas einst als Vorlage zum bemalen ihrer Schilde. Die auffällig langen Vorderbeine des Männchens erreichen annähernd die doppelte Körperlänge. Sein Lebensraum erstreckt sich von Mexico bis nach Argentinien.

The colorful exoskeleton of this giant harlequin beetle served as a template for the ancient Mayas to paint their shields. The extremely long forelegs of male specimens are almost twice as long as their body length. Their habitat ranges from Mexico to Argentina.
